1 Pomegranate (Punica granatum) is one of the commercially important fruit crops of India.
2 It can grow in best the type of soil is deep, heavy loamy soils and soils having a good drainage capacity. It can tolerate alkalinity and salinity to a certain extent. Presence of moisture in soil causes fruit cracking and lower yield.
3 Pomegranate grows well under semi-arid conditions and can be grown upto an altitude of 500 m. above m.s.
4 Fruit is consumed fresh or in the form of juice, jam, squash and syrup.
5 Rainfall requiremen:Pomegranate crop is recommended in a region that receives moderate rainfall of 500-800 mm per year.
6 Pomegranate farming can be very profitable in dry land areas where plenty of sunlight is available.
7 Commercial orchards produce,with proper maintenance 15 to 20 tonnes per hectare.
