1 cashew is an export-oriented crop. It can grow for nuts and forming is a long-term project.
2 It is highly delicious and nutritive. It is highly profitable, when it is grow properly with a right marketing plan.
3 It grows up well in all soils. Red sandy loam is best suited. Plains as well as hill slopes upto 600 - 700 feet elevation are suitable.
4 The cashew fruit is a kidney shaped drupaceous nut, greenish grey in colour. The nuts vary in size, shape, weight (3 to 20g) and shelling percentage (15%-30%).
5 Rainfall requirement: 50 cm - 250 cm and tolerate a temperature range of 25 to 49 C.
6 India imports raw cashew nuts, which are processed and converted into cashew kernels and cashew shell liquid and re-exported to the countries.
7 Commercial orchards produce an average of 2 tonnes per hectare, with proper maintenance 43 tonnes per hectare can be achieved.
